At a glance

What it is
Custom plan administration software for US third-party administrators (TPAs) of 401(k) and other defined contribution plans.
Who it is for
Independent and mid-sized TPAs, and administration teams inside recordkeepers and payroll firms.
What it replaces
Spreadsheets, email census chasing, re-keying between testing, forms and billing tools, and deadline lists kept outside the system of record.
How we work
Discovery with your administrators, a first working milestone, weekly status calls, and synthetic data by default.
Proof
A six-month build for a US TPA and KinetiPlan, our own TPA operating system.
Limits
We are a software company, not a TPA or law firm. Your team stays the authority on plan rules and interpretation.
What we build

TPA systems for the whole plan year

Each piece can be built on its own or as part of one platform.

Plan and sponsor records

Plan specifications, sponsor contacts, service agreements and plan-year history in one place.

Annual administration projects

Year-end projects broken into owned, dated tasks with queues and status for every plan.

Census requests and validation

Sponsor census requests, file checks, eligibility, HCE and key employee flags. More on data intake.

Compliance testing

ADP/ACP, top-heavy, coverage and annual limit checks with traceable results. More on testing.

Form 5500 data

Plan-year financials and participant counts aggregated for Form 5500 and its schedules.

Fee billing

Fee schedules, per-head and asset-based billing, invoices and revenue reporting.

Compliance calendar

Deadlines per plan and plan year, with owners and reminders, inside the system of record.

Sponsor portals and sign-off

Secure upload, questionnaires and e-signature for sponsor approvals.

Owner dashboards

Workload, overdue items and capacity across administrators, so the owner sees the plan year at a glance.

How a TPA software project runs

  1. Discovery. We sit with your administrators and map one real plan year: what comes in, who touches it, where it stalls.
  2. Data model and first milestone. We agree the data model and a first milestone your team can use, often census intake or the plan-year project board.
  3. Build against worked examples. Calculations are built against examples your compliance team signs off, and re-tested on every change.
  4. Parallel run. New and old processes run side by side on real plan-year data in your environment until the numbers agree.
  5. Support through year-end. Maintenance and extra cover around testing and filing seasons.

Why TPA domain knowledge matters

Most development firms learn 401(k) on the client's budget. Our team includes professionals with 18+ years in TPA administration, recordkeeping and compliance automation, so we start from how plan years actually run: census in, testing, corrections, filings and sponsor sign-off. Bill Gable of The Retirement Advantage wrote that the team "clearly demonstrate an excellent understanding of the third party administration industry."

TPA software questions

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly.

It is building the systems a third-party administrator uses to run retirement plans: plan and sponsor records, annual administration projects, census intake, compliance testing, Form 5500 data, fee billing and sponsor communication, shaped around how that TPA actually works.

Most TPAs buy a core platform and build around it: intake, integrations, dashboards, billing or a sponsor portal. A full custom build makes sense when your process is a competitive advantage or no product fits. Our build vs buy guide walks through the trade-offs.

Yes. We design around the files, feeds and systems you already have, such as payroll exports, recordkeeper files, SFTP drops and APIs, and add validation and an exception queue before anything is posted.

No. We build and test with synthetic or masked data by default. If production access is ever needed, it happens inside your environment with accounts you control and revoke.

No. Software Home is a software company. Plan rules are implemented with your administrators, compliance team or ERISA counsel signing off, and we do not give plan-level legal or tax advice.
