In short
Software Home builds integrations for US retirement firms: payroll, recordkeeper and custodian file exchanges, versioned APIs, event feeds and extraction from legacy systems, all mapped to one canonical model with validation at the edge, idempotent posting, control-total reconciliation and alerting.
The retirement data landscape
A single 401(k) plan touches several organizations: the employer’s payroll provider, the TPA, the recordkeeper, the custodian or trust company, fund companies, the advisor, and sometimes a separate testing or document vendor. Each holds part of the picture, in its own format, on its own schedule. Integration work makes those parts agree.
Integration patterns we build
| Pattern | Used for | What we add |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled file exchange (SFTP) | Payroll remittances, recordkeeper extracts, census, positions | Schema validation, checksums, duplicate detection, retries, alerting |
| REST or JSON APIs | Partner products, portals, real-time lookups | Versioned contracts, authentication, idempotent posting, rate limiting |
| Event or webhook feeds | Status changes, approvals, notifications | Signed payloads, replay, dead-letter queues |
| Database or report extraction | Legacy systems with no API | Read-only access, change detection, reconciliation to source totals |
| Industry formats | Recordkeeper and fund data exchange | Mapping to and from your model, versioned per partner |
Principles that keep integrations reliable
- One canonical model. Every feed maps to and from your plan, participant and transaction model, not to each other.
- Validate at the edge. Files and payloads are checked before they change anything, and rejected with reasons.
- Idempotency. Re-sending a file or request never posts twice.
- Reconcile totals. Control totals from the source are compared with what was loaded.
- Observability. Every exchange is logged with counts, timing and outcome, and failures alert a person.
- Least privilege. Credentials are scoped per partner and rotated; participant data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Typical projects
- Payroll provider files into a recordkeeping or administration system. See contribution and payroll processing.
- Recordkeeper extracts into a TPA’s testing and Form 5500 workflow, with reconciliation.
- An API layer over an existing administration platform so a fintech product or portal can use it. KinetiPlan, for example, exposes a documented JSON API over its data.
- Integration around FIS Relius. See FIS Relius integration and modernization.
- Data warehouse and reporting feeds for owners and finance teams.
Security and data handling
Integration projects handle SSNs, compensation and balances. We build and test with synthetic or masked data, keep production credentials in your environment, and document data flows so your security reviewers can see exactly what moves where. Software Home does not claim SOC 2 or ISO certification.
